Artistic Process

  • The spark that ignites a series can come from anywhere — a dream, a book, a stranger’s remark. From there, the creative process begins: a kind of wrestling with colors and shapes, words and materials, until form and subject matter begin to sing in harmony.

Translating this into fine art prints is never a matter of simple reproduction. Each print is like a sister in the same family — kin to the one-of-a-kind artworks, yet distinct. The challenge lies in fanning that first spark into flame again, and following it faithfully wherever it leads. The resulting prints are not just a retelling, but a deepening of the original narrative.

Sometimes, the process moves in sequence — one-of-a-kinds first, then fine art prints, and eventually, sometimes artbooks. On some occasions, all three paths unfold at once, feeding each other in unpredictable ways.

  • The spark that ignited this particular series was so unique that Nini often wonders if she will ever encounter another like it. She frequently asks Jesus for guidance —both in her practice of art and of life—but rarely does she receive an answer so vivid. On the night she prayed about this particular series, God responded not with words, but with images in a dream, accompanied with the notion that these were translations of the books in the New Testament into visual language. She woke up puzzled, yet buzzing with anticipation and quickly sketched what she had seen before she’d forget.

After much research and experimentation, Nini was able to bring this vision to life through a distinctive blend of paper pulp painting, silk screen printmaking, and encaustic wax. This series became a breakthrough for her as it taught her a completely new way to approach artmaking; one that is meaningful and free, full of wonder and discovery, and most importantly, everything she didn’t know she needed.

  • As with all fine art print collections by Nini, The Morning Star Illuminates is rooted in the same series as its one-of-a-kind counterparts—an extension of the narrative first developed in those singular pieces. Returning to the essence of the morning star may rise in our hearts, Nini felt it was most fitting to reveal the hidden forms and truths embedded within the 27 original artworks— much like how new experiences and lessons come alive in the pages of the Bible, gradually unveiled and illuminated to the believer by the Holy Spirit.

She created these prints by capturing them through illuminance, photography, and an experimental macro lens.

  • Nini will come back to this series in the future, but she doesn’t yet know when or how or what will come out of it… we shall see it when it happens.
